Early GameThe CICADA colony ship strands you on Proteus. Story-gated objectives unlock the Karakorum region and Bioscanner. Don't ignore comms.
Cure Blooms with the Resonator
SurvivalProteavirus / Bloom infections spread across biomes. Use the Sonic Resonator on Bloom Nodes; upgrade to the Feedback Resonator (Modification Station) to break Bloom Cankers from range. Uncured Blooms spawn Bloom Parasites.
Mobile vs Sessile — new in SN2
ExplorationLifeforms aren't split into 'flora' and 'fauna' anymore — they're Mobile (active) or Sessile (anchored). Many sessile creatures (Oxygen Tunic, Rotsacs, Raions) are harvestable resources, not just scenery.
Unlock Biomods with the Bioscanner
SurvivalUpgrade your Scanner to a Bioscanner at the Modification Station (needs Conduit Crystal from the Karakorum Power Plant). It unlocks alien blueprints and the Biomod progression system.
Combat is the wrong answer
CombatThere are no weapons. Distraction Flares, Wakemaker bursts, vehicle hull, and terrain breaks are your toolkit. Hammerheads are now classified Defensive — leave them alone and they leave you alone.
Don't cross the Sparse Plains in a straight line
ExplorationCollector Leviathans patrol Sparse Plains AND the Karakorum Metal Farms. Hug terrain, route along edges, pre-pick a retreat point.
Treat the Void as a wall
SurvivalShiver Leviathans patrol the Void out to 3100m. The map edge is not a frontier — turn around.
Graveyard + Lead Zone = blueprint runs
Early GameThe Cicada Wreck (Lander Garage) in the Lead Zone has Bioreactor, Tadpole, Repair Tool, Processor, Rebreather and Room fragments in one spot. Spires Wrecks add High Capacity Air Tank + a second Rebreather scan.
Find Conduit Crystal early
ExplorationConduit Crystal is exclusive to the Karakorum Power Plant and gates the Bioscanner, Advanced Battery, Entangled Power Cell, Feedback Resonator, and Improved Fins. Get there as soon as your depth modules allow.
Co-op: 4 players, cross-platform
Co-opUp to 4 players. Split roles: scout (Tadpole), base builder, scanner/forager. Stage a safe pod before pushing deep — group wipes mean a long swim back.
Patch notes are the source of truth
SurvivalSN2 is Early Access and behaviour patches frequently (e.g. Hammerhead aggro was nerfed). Always check Unknown Worlds patch notes before trusting older guides.
